While having a kon lo char siew mee lunch at my favourite coffeeshop, the conversation started with my colleague pondering how do people stay long in this firm.
My manager, who is a Singaporean and has spent about 8-9 years odd with the firm, shared his experience and why, despite headhunt calls, still decides to stick around.
It's all about Stewardship and People. When he told me of his story, I felt he certainly has the luck. Some people do really have luck in a firm. They get found by great people, who bring them to great places. Others get missed out, and get misled, and don't get recognized for who they could have been. There are just so many variables to why a person leaves a job, as the firm is putting in all sorts of efforts to retain people. No wonder HR is not just "admin" work anymore. There's a whole lot of strategy work in it.
I do realise the great advantages this firm holds, which very few other companies have. I'm starting to think this pondering will never end..
