it was close to dinner time and my boy, having to labour himself to work has neglected to have his lunch causing him to pounce on anything edible in sight and being the ever always giving in person that he is, he asks me what do i wanna eat, "ME? i'm so not hungry yet if that's what you're asking" i replied, "but anything Chinese is good enough" i added ;) ..he then said "How bout Chili's?"...err which part of Chinese he didn't get? hahahaha so after much thinking about he said "ah Vietnam Kitchen?" ... hmmm close enough to being Chinese...however, my very first Vietnamese cuisine experience in a restaurant called Saigon-'something' when i was 6 or so was not at all pleasurable and i can proudly say i haven't eaten Vietnamese stuffs since then, so i was a little hesitant when he suggested Vietnam Kitchen. But after a lil thinking while my boy drove us towards One Utama, a lil voice in my head said "Oh for goodness sake! just try it out! it might not even be that BAD!" and then another voice said "But u hate raw taugeh!!! you'll never get through eating Vietnam food without those stinking taugeh" but the "GOOD" voice prevailed ...
so here we are in Vietnam Kitchen, with all it's oriental inspired deco and warm lighting, a waiter brought us to our seats and then passed us the menus...let the journey begin!
my boy, thinking hard (i bet he's looking at all the weirdest stuffs in there, he has the knack for it!)...and also it doesn't help with the fact that the menu was almost endless! filled with yummy sounding chows!
as for me, my eyes landed straight on the Lemon Grass Chicken Chop, Egg with Rice...sounds very safe! ;) no raw taugeh in sight! *pheeeeewwwww*
appetizer numero uno - Minced Shrimp on Sweet Sugar Cane ( i told you my boy has the habit of ordering unique stuffs...which is good of course, just so i get to try it and if i hate it, he has to eat it anyway ;p)
a closer look at it...it's really sumptuous i tell ya!...the minced shrimp envelopes the sweet sugar cane..and as you try to bite chunks of the minced shrimp, you also have to chew the ends of the sugar cane and when they both mix, ooisheh, it tastes divine!
appetizer numero dos - Grilled Squid with some fantastic sauce over it! and you see the little bowl of condiment right next to it? that lil bowl holds the best dips ever! it has all the mixed variety of chilies! ok just two, Cili Padi dan Cili Merah ;) but that's not it....it has a sweet tangy taste to it...i'm salivating just narrating back what i ate!
my boy's order...Stir Fried Prawns in Vietnam Sauce, fat juicy prawns in sweet-spicy sauce...mmmmm
and now, my order...the Lemon Grass Chicken was soooo yummy, can i have one now? it was all so good! i had my rice covered in all those spicy condiments that came along with it, so i was panting 1/4 of the time...but it was all sooooo good! ok i know i am so over rating this place.
and the total was a lovely RM45.08...a sumptuous, yummylicious, heavenly meal for only RM45.08...i'm not saying it's cheap whatsoever, but it was all worth it...My boy and i left Vietnam Kitchen feeling so good it was contagious! You know how sometimes you order something so good and tastes just totally heavenly, it really makes your day..that's how i felt. I left wanting for more.
and while walking around One Utama (i had to buy Na that top she wanted ;P hehehe, ei Na, my mom saw me wearing it, she wanted it too! so i bought her a white one ;p) so yea, while walking around, i saw the Santa Clause of Chinese New Year, the Choi San Yeh (God of Prosperity)..totally freaky! he was packing up then, so i didn't get a nicer shot of him.
after my boy finished his shopping for the coming Chinese New Year, we took a drive to The Curve...just to see the new McDonald's Drive Thru (why? i dunno...dun ask me...i definitely wasn't interested in seeing the new drive thru..but my boy insisted..he was eager to show me, hmmmm oh well..) now i'm pretty puzzled as to why i added this bit into this entry...
so now that Chinese New Year is around the corner, my mom has been the busiest woman around the house! having learnt to make Pineapple Tarts a few years back, she has since stopped buying them and, instead, made Pineapple Tarts to be passed around to family and relatives on this yearly celebration...cost saving and personal satisfaction she said...so then, she begins on her tart hike, making hundreds and hundreds of them, leaving trails of melted and baked butter odour conquering the kitchen, but it smells good, so it's permitted ;p (who am i to decide if it's permitted or not huh?!)
my mom in action! ;p
roll 'em dough all up!
a mighty force to get it all out...i tell ya, this part is NOT easy! if you ain't got superhuman strenght, you'll never get to get the dough all out in a perfect piece.
roll roll roll ...
TADA!!! - cute lil ones ;)
